ATLANTA Gay & Lesbian Community FOUNDATION

RECEIVES ELITE LEADERSHIP GIFT

Announces Call for Board Members

The Board of Directors of The ATLANTA Gay & Lesbian Community FOUNDATION announced today an elite leadership gift in the amount of $75,000 from The Lloyd E. Russell Foundation.

The Lloyd E. Russell Foundation is very happy for this great opportunity to partner with a new and visionary effort,” said Pamm Burdett, Director of the Lloyd E. Russell Foundation. “We are convinced that The ATLANTA Gay & Lesbian Community FOUNDATION can increase the capacity of local nonprofits organizations, inspire and facilitate generous local philanthropy, and provide new tools for addressing unmet community needs in the queer, leather, and straight-allied communities of metro Atlanta,” she continued. Capacity building services by AGLC Foundation will be designated as “Sponsored by The Lloyd E. Russell Foundation.”

The grant  will support the Foundation’s programs to empower donors, help nonprofit organizations get better results, and meet local needs in order to build a stronger and more inclusive community. The ATLANTA Gay & Lesbian Community FOUNDATION works locally through donor-advised funds, community impact grants, philanthropic education, and technical assistance in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied communities of metropolitan Atlanta. The generosity of The Lloyd E. Russell Foundation will enable the Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Community Foundation to serve the entire community throughout the lifespan and build the philanthropic and program-delivery capacity of local LGBTQA-serving organizations.

“This elite leadership gift will make possible direct positive change for the LGBTQA community,” according to Edward R. Gray, Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Community Foundation President. “With our first quarter goal of securing funding for our operating plan now achieved, we are moving aggressively to fill open seats on the board of directors and Community Impact Advisory Board,” Gray continued. “We encourage all local philanthropists to visit our website, www.aglcfoundation.org, and get involved. We have the backing we need and are ready to go!”

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
The ATLANTA Gay & Lesbian Community FOUNDATION’ invites nominations, including self-nominations, of qualified candidates to the Board of Directors or well as the Community Impact Advisory Board. Women and people of color are especially encouraged to consider these exciting and meaningful opportunities for service to the community.

The Foundation’s transitional board of directors, who took office on January 13, 2008, expects to be joined by several new board members during its upcoming quarterly meeting. However, the search for qualified candidates for board service is integral to the work of the Foundation.
